We got ourselves thinking of the process of how Bistro399 got its name and we both agreed that it was just as hard and thoroughly difficult as the time when we have had our children, separately. Well, it should be hard, right? It’s something very special that needs our knowledge, devotion, time and love, just as our kids do.
Like fashion, restaurants naming goes in quick-moving cycles and speaks to the pieties and pretensions of the culinary moment. There is not a single, dominant trend but several simultaneous ones, and for a scene in an area as New Jersey this one is too polyglot to be confined to a single trend.
What we had on the table were these names: Sofra (pronounced as Sou-fra), Meze (pronounced as Me-zeh), Meditera, Figs & Olives and Bistro.
The first two words are selected Macedonian words describing the pleasure and enjoyment in dining, the third choice was reflecting the nature of our proposing Mediterranean cuisine, the “&-name” was an option but already ampersands are common in area restaurants as dishtowel napkins, so we were bidding for the well-known comfy word Bistro, it felt strangely the “right one”.
We needed genuine opinions, even harsh or easily accepted names, so we did a survey ….and here comes our gratitude to you guys for being part of the baptizing of our “baby”.
Ok, we had the basic and then, we were searching for something unique but functional at the same time. That’s how the street number of our address Midland Avenue was easily transferred to the name.
Bistro 399 – It sounds PERFECT!!!
Our mission is to attract you with the inside, the soul via such things as the design of the place and the menu and this is how the restaurant conveys its personality, its vision, its theme.
Connecting the dots on the menu you’ll be intrigued by Burger #7. It’s a childhood memory of our time when growing in Skopje where this was our must-have fast-food breakfast/lunch/dinner. Now, it’s our grown-up improved version of a street food delicatessen, YOUR must-have in the order.
Now, no need of GPS, just a lust for a place that welcomes you with subtle atmosphere and food that makes you want more, drive to us and be overwhelmed.
Next time be prepared for the pizza-invader pastry, well-known as Burek.
